Carter….Brisbane Newborn Photographer

Fragile bird your fight was big…at times your wings they failed you…

But time again you proved us wrong…your spirit strong, it saved you…

We loved you hard…despite the fight…& waited while you grew…

Our little dove you’ve flourished now…the fight in you was true.

Now I know I say this regularly but I truly am so privileged to share in the journey of so many miracles and today’s little man could be described as nothing other than that. I’ll let his mumma share their journey below and I’ll share some pics along the way but today my heart is full. There were laughs, there were tears of awe at just how far this special guys has come. So much love for this special family.

This beautiful image shared by his family and taken by a very special Heartfelt photographer show’s just how far this little warrior has come and the story below shows just the strength it takes for a mumma and papa to weather such a storm….

On a beautiful autumn afternoon, we were excitedly inspecting our new future property, imagining what it would be like to raise our little “peanut” in our dream family home. The pregnancy had been uneventful, and at 24 weeks my bump had only recently started to show and resemble the fact I was growing a small human. That day I’d felt uncomfortable and experienced some back pain, and the usual tiredness that comes with pregnancy. Within a few hours the cramps escalated and increased in frequency. My husband and I drove to the PAC at Mater Mother’s, assuming after a quick check over we’d be sent on our way. Only to be advised by our obstetrician we were about to become parents. At 1:04am, at 24+6 weeks we met our little boy, Carter James, weighing 675g, following an emergency caesarian. We were thrown into a world we didn’t know existed. Never had we experienced so much love and pain all at once. We woke each day feeling empty and hollow, and at night walked out the hospital doors wondering what the next day would bring. However, nothing was tougher than the battle our little fighter took on; the hurdles he faced and challenges he overcame. Carter grew in strength each day, and proved to everyone he was here to stay. After 108 days in the NICU and on the first day of spring, we took our baby boy home. Now, 5.5months later, weighing 4.7kg, we wake to his gorgeous cheeky smile and mischievous personality. The phenomenal love and support of the nurses, our friends and our families helped us not only cope, but find joy amongst the pain. They gave us the courage to face each day. Without you, the journey would not have been possible, and our beautiful family wouldn’t be what it is today.

Newborn baby boy sleeping in wooden trencher bowl with blue blanket and wrap on wooden floorThis was our first set up the day…when mumma arrived she said…he doesn’t sleep during the day and he hates to be swaddled….he he he…ok mumma!

Newborn baby boy sleeping in cream bucket with dark grey blanket and wrap and knit layer and bonnet on white wooden floor Newborn baby boy sleeping in cream bucket with dark grey blanket and wrap and knit layer and bonnet on white wooden floorWhile Carter may have been a little bigger (now) than most of my usual newborns, I adore these teeny felt hearts because they show just how small their little hands truly are…

Newborn baby boy sleeping on cream blanket with white and teal wrap and teal knit bonnetI just adore this shot…this wrap was the only thing mumma had a chance to buy for her sweet boy before he arrived unexpectedly so early….I love including things in our sessions that have such a special meaning and will stay with this little guy forever.

Newborn baby boy awake in round wooden bowl with teal knit wrap and romper and bonnet on wooden floor holding bunny soft toyOk, I can’t even with this guy…seriously the laughter that was involved in this shot after we snipped his nappy off with scissors while he was snoozing, wiggled and jiggled him into this knit romper that may have been a touch too small and then plopped him in this bowl…he just looked at us like….what on earth are you lot doing? Oh Carter, so worth it in the end, you could not be any cuter if you tried…even with your signature frown!

I never, ever, want a family to miss out on capturing that special newborn stage, even if it is 5.5mths down the track and the fact that I had the immense privilege of not only caring for this sweet guy in the NICU but also to capture those magic moments for them today was just the very best. This little man is a warrior like no other and he deserved to celebrated for all the struggles he has fought and won.

Carter, I love you to pieces, you and your family are so very sweet and it was the best gift to see you all today.

Kate & Keli, your strength and courage is a true inspiration and Carter could not have chosen more perfect parents…I hope you love your sneak peak.x.
