We’ve fought a mighty battle
To have you here today…
We never knew we needed you…
We’ve come a long long way…
But Clementine you’ve filled our hearts…
A miracle to love…
So happy that you’re here with us…
Sent from up above.
To see the strength and courage some families have to bring a miracle earthside is such an immense privilege, and for that I am eternally grateful. To witness that miracle…pure magic. I feel so lucky that I get to share in so many families journey’s and that I have the honour of sharing their stories with you all.
Today…a teeny tiny miracle came to the studio for snuggles and to capture some very special memories being made. Having her in the studio today filled my heart considering the journey her mumma and papa had to take to get her. I’ll let her mumma share their story below and I am sure you will all agree….she was meant to be here!
Clementine and her big brother Declan are both IVF babies. The 7 year age gap is due to Declan getting meningitis and losing his hearing at age 2. We almost lost Declan, but the miracle of antibiotics saved his life. And then the miracle of cochlear implants means that today he can speak and hear like any other 7 year old. Life after Declan’s illness became hectic and a whirl of auditory verbal therapies and speech therapy and audiology appointments and deaf playgroup and so on…. when Declan got to prep we finally started to think about babies again.
Back to IVF and lucky enough to fall pregnant first try… but I got very sick with rare complication called Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome. Spent 2 weeks in hospital, 4 nights in ICU, with multiple issues the most serious being kidney failure and lungs so full of fluid I was on high flow oxygen and even then could barely breathe. If I wasn’t pregnant I would have got better right away, so I was offered a termination and I said yes but ONLY if you need it to save my life, otherwise I will suffer through it. Luckily I started to improve and my pregnancy was able to be saved. Recovery has been long. It took me four weeks to be able to walk without assistance. I have had a blood clot, pleurisy, and a haematoma. I have been off work for my entire pregnancy.
Clementine arrived 3 weeks early via emergency caesarean, too eager to join us to wait any longer. She is perfect! Almost can’t believe everything I went through to bring her into this world, it’s all a distant memory now. We truly have two little miracle babies now.
Sweet Clementine…the little embryo that was meant to survive….this gorgeous set up makes me think of how her life started out not that long ago, a little circle of cells that was determined to survive despite all the odds. No truer miracle.
This white felt heart from Little Jar Big Dreams could not have been more perfect for this set up…so much love right here and stunning flower halo from Gumnutandbloom Photo Props made it the perfect set up.
Gorgeous tieback from Princess & The Pea Props….those eyelashes…those lips…those darling little fingers. Mumma wanted all things pink, white and sage green…I’d have to say, there’s no better combo!
This beautiful pink farmers basket is from Mini Hearts Photography Props was perfect…sweet Clementine snuggled right in! Two amazing miracles side by side…this image makes my heart explode.
This sage green is definitely one of my favourite colours on little girls…its so sweet and serene and I may have squealed a little when Clementine’s mumma requested it! The proudest big brother there ever was…Declan was in absolute awe of his sweet new sister. He kept a close eye on us throughout the session and was filled with joy when I asked him to snuggle up his new baby sister!
Emma and Brandon…I am so glad you got not one but two very special miracles in every sense of the word.
What a privilege to meet you all today and capture your beautiful family.
